During my first conversation with Jim, last century, I was impressed by his quiet confidence and solid enthusiasm. Since then, I have come to learn the determination, dexterity, skills and knowledge of Jim and the crew behind the project and am delighted to be associated with them. Ice Warrior has all the potential of a truly great British First. Slightly mad and eccentric in conception, thorough and precise in planning and likely to prove ingenious and resolved in execution.
The terrain is exceptionally hostile but I am confident that Jim and hid team will be successful, not only in their endeavours but also in conducting vital transect of the Arctic Ocean: for as Sir Ernest Shackleton said "difficulties are just things to overcome".
Learning to travel the hard way is not only the best way, but it’s also the most memorable. I greatly admire all of you for having a go - believe me you won’t forget the experience. Good luck.
What Jim McNeill and his team are doing is pioneering of the most advanced kind. Just as Cancer Research UK is genuinely pioneering new ways to treat cancer; what he is doing pushes man beyond the boundaries and will take him to the most inaccessible places on Earth.
We all think that the world has been “discovered” and there are few areas that mankind has not reached. This is not so and project’s like Jim McNeill’s Ice Warrior Project serves to explore these extremes and push back the boundaries of our knowledge as well as the limits of those who take part. As an expeditioner myself, I am delighted to encourage and support such worthwhile endeavour, undertaken not by experts but by trained amateurs under the careful leadership of Jim. I wish them the very best of luck.
To Jim and his whole team. I know how hard and demanding training can be, but push on, you will find it is worth it in the end.
Wishing Jim and his intrepid team all the very best of British in their quest to reach The Last Pole.
Jim McNeill is a true, 'old school’ explorer, living the life we all dreamed of living as youngsters, but the huge difference between Jim and the rest of us is that he never stopped at the dreaming stage. He faces his greatest challenge now. Climate Change Awareness.
The Oceans have been my life since I was a teenager. I love the awesome beauty, the serenity, the frenetic chaos and the overwhelming power. To think that we as humans have taken advantage of and abused our oceans to the point of serious damage is horrifying. Which is why I was honoured when Jim and Sam asked me to be Patron of their critically important project.
What The Global Warrior Project are doing is brilliant and necessary, it is great that they are getting ordinary people involved in such an important thing. I am confident I would be absolutely useless.
